UK NICE encourages clinicians to enter patients into ACST-2
“NICE encourages clinicians either to enter patients into the ACST-2 trial (Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Surgery Trial -2; www.acst.org.uk) or to submit data to the Endovascular Carotid Register…. “
The recommendation may be found on the NICE website.
ACST-2 is a large, simple international randomised trial comparing surgery (CEA) versus stenting (CAS) in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis where there is substantial uncertainty as to which treatment is more appropriate. ACST-2 seeks to compare these procedures and their benefit in stroke prevention. ACST-2 is currently recruiting patients from all over the world through very experienced collaborators in many different countries. The trial hopes to recruit many thousands of patients over the next few years for a meaningful comparison between surgery and stenting.
