Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial 2
Lead Researcher: Alison Halliday
Group Website: ACST-2
Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial 2 (ACST-2) is a large, simple international randomised trial comparing surgery (CEA) versus stenting (CAS) in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis where there is substantial uncertainty as to which treatment is more appropriate. ACST-2 seeks to compare these procedures and their benefit in stroke prevention. ACST-2 is currently recruiting patients from all over the world through very experienced collaborators in many different countries. The trial hopes to recruit many thousands of patients over the next few years for a meaningful comparison between surgery and stenting.
