Neurological Research

Neurological research has a long-standing history at Oxford, from Thomas Willis and his colleagues in the 17th century who described the anatomy of the brain through to today's neuroscientists and neurosurgeons. On going research efforts include laboratory studies of the mechanics of neurological disease, as well as clinical and epidemiological research.
The Department's neurosurgeons have a broad agenda of research interests driven from their particular surgical expertise, from functional movement disorders, and the treatment of neuropathic pain syndromes through to research into cerebrovascular and metabolic responses in stroke patients. Other activities include work with pituitary tumours, epilepsy and the development of imaging and the delivery of novel therapeutics.
