The Harry E. Bacon Foundation Award is awarded once every 2 years for the best Basic Science Podium Presentation at the ASCRS (American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons) conference. ASCRS is the premier society for colon and rectal surgeons.

This year, the meeting was held in Phoenix, Arizona between April 26th to May 1st 2013 and was attended by over 2700 participants. There were 94 podium presentations and 374 poster presentations.

Trevor's work is entitled "Molecular Imaging of Dysplasia and Cancer Using Fluorescent Lectins" and is being supported by a project grant from the Bowel Disease Research Forum (BDRF). The aim of this research is to develop specially labelled proteins called lectins, derived from plants, which bind to abnormal areas in the bowel, making them easier to see and remove during colonoscopy and surgery.
