Renee Ormsby

Postdoctoral Researcher in Bone Oncology

I graduated from the University of Adelaide, SA, Australia, with my PhD in research in 2019. My research focused on how bone cells, in particular osteocytes, respond to wear particles derived from hip replacements, and how they respond to bacteria derived from prosthetic joint infections.

After my PhD, I joined the Charles Lab at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, USA, where I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist for three years (2020-2023). My research during this time focused on Fibrous Dysplasia, in particular, understanding how osteoclasts play a role in the development of the fibrotic lesions which occur in this rare disease.

In April 2023, I joined the Bone Oncology group, led by A/Prof Claire Edwards. My project is investigating the metabolic tumour bone relationship, understanding how the pentose phosphate pathway plays a role in prostate cancer metastasis to bone, and how this pathway can be targeted to prevent the spread of cancer to the bone. This project is funded by the Medical Research Council.

I am also an active member of both the American Society for Bone Mineral Research (ASBMR) and the Australian New Zealand Bone Mineral Society (ANZBMS).
