Biography

Professor Alison Halliday is Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences whose main interest is in Carotid Surgery and Stroke Prevention. She is a member of the British Association of Stroke Physicians and does two stroke prevention clinics a week as well as operating and doing research. Since 1993 she has been Principal Investigator of the ACST (Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial) and is working with Sir Richard Peto and CTSU. The first ACST trial was the largest vascular surgery trial in the world and has just completed 10 year follow up. The new ACST-2 trial is now enrolling patients suitable for carotid artery interventions, comparing surgical and stenting treatment for stroke prevention

Professor Linda Hands is Associate Professor of Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences. Her areas of interested are vascular surgery; venous surgery; leg ulcers; arterial disease; peripheral vascular disease; aortic surgery; carotid surgery/endarterectomy. She is Clinical Director of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and Director of the Oxford Telemedicine Institute.


 

The lecture will be chaired by Professor David Cranston, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences.
