Dr Omair Shariq, a DPhil student and clinical research fellow in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) and Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM), has received the 2021 Best Presentation for Clinical Research award during the 41st Annual Meeting of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES), which was held virtually on 25-27 April 2021.

The award was in recognition of his DPhil work ‘Clinical Features, Genotype-Phenotype Correlations, and Treatment Outcomes in Children and Adolescents with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1: An International Cohort Study.’ This work was carried out under the supervision of Professor Freddie Hamdy, NDS Head of Department, Professor Rajesh Thakker, OCDEM, and Professor Duncan Richards, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS).

Commenting on his remarkable achievement, Dr Shariq said: “I was delighted to find out that I was awarded the prize for the best clinical research presentation. This award has particular significance for me, as I am interested in pursuing a career in endocrine surgery upon completion of my DPhil and surgical training.”
