Seven new Cochrane Reviews from the Cochrane ENT Disorders Group at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences have explored the potential benefits and harms of a variety of treatment options for chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), inflammation and infection of the middle ear that lasts for two weeks or more.

The evidence is limited, leaving many unanswered questions about which treatments work best and how different types, combinations and frequencies of treatments compare, as well as their potential harms.

With different treatment options available, individuals with CSOM are encouraged to discuss their options with a healthcare provider, including potential unwanted effects.
