Dr Furmanski completed her PhD in T-cell repertoire selection at Imperial College London, in the group of Professor Julian Dyson and Professor Liz Simpson. She went on to conduct eight years of post-doctoral research in thymocyte development and T-cell differentiation at Imperial and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, mentored by Professor Tessa Crompton and in collaboration with Dr Graham Davies. Dr Furmanski was then awarded an independent career development fellowship from Asthma UK to study the role of morphogen signalling in Th2 cell biology. She has authored papers on thymocyte development and selection, thymus transplantation, T-cell signalling, mechanisms of autoimmunity, and T-helper differentiation. In 2015, Dr Furmanski joined the University of Bedfordshire as a Senior Lecturer in Immunology, where she accrued significant teaching, supervisory, academic and course management experience. She is also involved in education quality assessment as an External Examiner for under- and post-graduate courses.

Dr Furmanski said: “Education enriches and changes lives. It is hugely rewarding to guide keen, bright, and committed students on their learning journeys, particularly in immunology, a subject that I love. I am absolutely delighted to join Oxford, where I aim to take MSc Integrated Immunology from strength to strength!”
