Anatomically the prostate is described as having anterior, posterior, and lateral surfaces with a narrow apex inferiorly and a broad base superiorly in continuity with the bladder. It is composed of approximately 70% glandular and 30% fibromuscular stroma containing collagen and smooth muscle. © 2008 Springer-Verlag London.
