Admissions information

Admission for 2021-22

Applications for 2022-23 opened on 1st September 2021. The main deadline will be 12 noon on 3rd December 2021.

Entry requirements

For our entry requirements please go to our course page at the University's Graduate Admissions website.

Applicants are expected to have background knowledge in immunology.

Please note that this course is not open to intercalating medical students. We expect all applicants to have completed their degrees (undergraduate or medical) before they start this MSc course.

The course is taught and assessed entirely in English. Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to show evidence of the level of English they have attained. The University of Oxford requires the higher level of English for postgraduate taught courses. The University recognises only certain English language tests. Details of English language requirements can be found here.

Application material

Applicants must provide the following information with their application before it can be considered:

  • CV
  • Transcript: If you have not yet completed your undergraduate programme, then please ensure that the transcript is as recent as possible.
  • Statement of Purpose (also known as a Personal Statement): Applicants are asked to write a statement of purpose, which must be in English, of no more than about 1,500 words in length.
  • References: Three academic references are required. You should nominate referees who are capable of providing an informed view of your recent academic ability. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that their references are submitted on time. Please read the reference information in the Application Guide before applying.

Please make sure that all supporting materials and all references are submitted in good time before the application deadline. If you submit your application at the last minute, you risk it being incomplete and not considered.

For details on how your application will be assessed, please see the How to Apply section on the Course Admissions page.

Application Process

After the application deadline, all complete applications will be assessed by the admissions panel for the course. In the first review stage each application will either be rejected or short-listed for interview.

Interviews usually take place four to six weeks after the application deadline. UK based applicants will be invited to attend a panel interview in Oxford, whilst applicants from outside the UK will be interviewed by Teams or telephone (we prefer Teams with a video connection). Interviews are approximately half an hour in length, and are conducted by members of the admissions panel.

What happens after your interview?

  • Accepted: You will receive an email from the Course Administrator with an informal notification of the outcome of your application. This will be followed by a letter with a formal offer, sent electronically by email. Hard copies are available on request. The offer of a place will be dependent on fulfilling any qualifying conditions set by the admissions panel. You will also be given a deadline by when you need to notify the Course Administrator of your intention to accept the conditional offer.
  • Rejected: You will receive a letter with the outcome of your application by email from the Course Administrator.
  • Wait-listed (if applicable): You will be informed by email that the admissions panel would like to offer you a place on the course but that the course is already full. If a place becomes available later you will receive an offer at that point.

For further information about the offer of a place at the University of Oxford, please click here.

Please note that our offers are for places on the course only and do not normally come with offers of funding. Decisions on University-wide scholarships for which you are either automatically considered (if eligible), or for which you have applied separately when submitting your application, are not made by the admissions panel for this course. For further information about the status of such scholarship decisions please consult the individual scholarship pages via the Fees, Funding and Scholarship search tool.
