DPhil student
Amy is a medical doctor from South Africa. After completing her undergraduate training at the University of Cape Town, she returned to her home province of KwaZulu-Natal to work as a junior doctor for three years, spending the last nine months running a rural district hospital’s neonatal unit. Outside of her clinical work, Amy has spent two years as a research fellow under the supervision of Professor Salome Maswime in the University of Cape Town’s Global Surgery Division, completing an MSc focused on surgical outcomes for women in Africa. Amy is passionate about improving women’s and children’s health in low- and middle-income countries and the ways in which these often siloed disciplines interact.
Research summary

Amy’s studies in Oxford are supported by a Rhodes Scholarship.
