I completed medical school at the National University of Singapore, and commenced specialist surgical training thereafter, qualifying as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018. Just prior to my DPhil, I served as an Associate Consultant Surgeon in Colorectal Surgery, and held a concomitant position as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the National University of Singapore.
This opportunity to pursue a DPhil at the University of Oxford was made possible with the generous support of a Fellowship by the National Medical Research Council, Singapore.
Research summary
Colorectal cancer has a global burden of disease and is one of the most common cancers in terms of both incidence and mortality. My work, under the supervision of Professor Simon Buczacki, involves breaking down the complex heterogeneity inherent in colorectal cancer, and understanding the mechanisms by which subclones interact with each other, and with normal cells. In this way, I hope to understand the initial processes which give rise to malignant cancer, and develop therapeutics which may abate it.
