Emma Bowes

Tissue Handling Technician - Biobanking

As a biobanker, I provide a complete range of end to end services for sample acquisition for the Oesophageal Cancer Sample Handling Pathway, including identifying potential patients, obtaining consent and collecting, processing and allocating pathological material.

My main focus is the CRUK Oesophageal pathway, but I consent, collect and process specimens for a wide range of tissue types, mostly cancer specimens. I primarily consent patients under ORB, but also consent to the Genomics England 100,000 Genomes Project, and GI Illness cohort. I am trained in phlebotomy and process bloods for CRUK and OxValve cardiac study, including DNA extraction.

I also support clinical data collection, including digitisation of sections and accurate data entry to ensure traceability of samples.
