Monitoring cavitation in HIFU as an aid to assisting treatment
Hsieh CY., Smith PP., Kennedy J., Leslie T.
Rapid hypothermia resulting in tissue necrosis is often associated with bubble activity (normally from cavitation) in HIFU treatment. Indeed in some HIFU protocols, the evidence of cavitation is taken as an indicator of tissue lesions. In this paper we discuss two methods to delineate reliably the region in which cavitation occurs, so that a history of the cavitation events can be provided automatically during treatment. Results are shown on simulated images and from a clinical treatment session. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.
