Transfer of Status
By the end of your fourth term, you must have completed your Transfer of Status from a Probationer Research Student (PRS) to DPhil or MSc by Research student. You will be required to apply for this by completing the ‘GSO.2.MSD’ form and writing a progress report of no more than 3,000 words in length. You will be sent reminders by both the GSA and your supervisor(s) to complete this form, and how to go about writing the report. If you are unable to transfer your status by the end of your fourth term your status will automatically lapse and you will have to apply to be reinstated.
Confirmation of Status
By the end of your 9th term, you must have completed your Confirmation of Status as a DPhil student. You are required to apply for this in good time by completing the ‘GSO.14.MSD’ form. You will be sent reminders by both the GSA and your supervisor(s) to complete this form, and to arrange a presentation and an interview prior to submitting the form. It is not possible for you to submit for examination until your DPhil status has been confirmed.
Appointment of Examiners
Having transferred to DPhil status within your first 4 terms and having confirmed your DPhil status before or in your 9th term, you are permitted to submit a thesis for examination and in a position to apply for appointment of examiners via the ‘GSO.3’ form. Due to standard processing times, you are strongly advised to apply for the appointment of examiners at least 6 weeks before you submit your thesis.
Medical Science Division Skills training
The Medical Science Division offers students opportunities for training, whether it is compulsory to their course or tailored to individual needs. Each term a programme is released which outlines the training on offer. It is recommended that each student spends at least 10 days a year on graduate skills training.
