Other inductees included the late Sir Macfarlane Burnett (Nobel Laureate), Sir Gustav Nossal, Professor Emeritus Ian Mackay, Professor Emeritus Priscilla Kincaid-Smith and the late Professors Maurice Ewing and Richard Lovell. Unfortunately Peter Morris was not able to get there but it was a grand occasion from all accounts, with a sell-out audience at the celebratory dinner.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Freddie Hamdy’s PART trial has been funded by the NIHR HTA. PART is a feasibility, randomised controlled trial which will compare partial ablation (PA) with radical prostatectomy (RP) in men with intermediate risk unilateral prostate cancer.

RCS Annual Day hosts the launch of SITU at St Anne's College

The Oxford Surgical Interventional Unit was launched at the Royal College of Surgeons Annual Day held at St Anne's College on 26th March, 2014. The event, which was attended by 100 delegates, included presentations from individual unit directors on their progress and also a "hot topic" of their choice relating to surgical research and innovation. Topics chosen included "Placebo controls in surgical trials", "Teaching Undergraduates in Clinical Research" and "Surgical Devices in Surgical Trlals".
Kate Milward, a DPhil student in TRIG, has won the prestigious Sir Roy Calne Award at the British Transplantation Society, 2014.

Jo Cook awarded with Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland Medal

Jo Cook, Research Nurse on Professor Taggart's ART trial, was presented with the medal at this year's Royal Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons' annual meeting in Brighton for her presentation on "The Patient, The GP, The Primary Care Team; their relationship, adherence to treatment and the implications for research". Jo was awarded with her medal at the 2014 Forum in Brighton after her winning both the Cardiothoracic Forum Best Paper and first prize in the poster competition at the 2013 meeting.

Prasanna Sooriakumaran, Senior Fellow in Robotic Surgery & Urology with the Surgical Intervention Trials Unit spoke about his research on local radio on Thursday evening and Friday morning (27th and 28th February) in an attempt to raise public awareness of prostate cancer and it's treatment. His paper on "Surgery v Radiotherapy in Prostate Cancer" is published in the BMJ.
