ACS International Guest Scholarships are offered to young surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada who have demonstrated strong interests in teaching and research. These Scholarships provide the scholars with an opportunity to visit clinical, teaching and research activities in the United States and Canada, whilst also allowing for them to attend and participate fully in the educational opportunities and activities of the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress.
Professor Markar, who is a Professor of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Director of NDS SITU, was recommended by the International Relations Committee to the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons. This award will allow him to attend the ACS annual Clinical Congress, which will take place from 4 to 7 October 2025.
Commenting on his scholarship success, Professor Markar said: ‘I am delighted to receive the ACS International Guest Scholarship for 2025, and I very much look forward to attending the meeting and building strong exciting research collaborations between our unit in Oxford and our colleagues in the United States and Canada.’
