HTA Licensing
The DRWF Human Islet Isolation Facility is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA). The HTA is a regulatory body, set up in 2005, that governs the removal, storage and use of human tissues for research or clinical purposes. They ensure that human tissues are used safety, ethically and with the appropriate consent. The Facility holds licenses for: procurement, processing and distribution. Our licence number is 22496 and the Designated Individual is Prof. Paul Johnson.
To ensure continued compliance with the licencing agreement, the HTA perform an in depth inspection of the Facility once every two years. In addition, the HTA are always able to perform random 'spot checks' of any of their licenced facilities, to ensure that sites continue to work to their high regulatory standards. Our last full inspection was performed in August 2019. The report from this inspection, along with further information about the HTA, can be found on their website https://www.hta.gov.uk/.
