The University of Oxford Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU) is a partnership between the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) and the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS).
If you would like to find out more about the NDORMS team, please visit the NDORMS SITU website.
SITU NDS is led by Professor Sheraz Markar, who is supported by a multidisciplinary team with experience in developing and running surgical trials. The Academic Directors are Professor Richard Bryant, Professor Michael Douek and Professor Alex Green who each oversees a different section of the portfolio according to their specialty.
The SITU NDS trials portfolio is diverse, covering many different themes and research areas and we welcome surgical trial proposals and ideas which aim to answer important questions about the safety and efficacy of surgery in the UK and worldwide. If you are interested in running a trial through SITU, please visit the Work with us section of the SITU website.
SITU works as part of the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU – directed by Professor Duncan Richards and managed by Dr Vicki Barber), a UKCRC registered trials unit that provides substantial support from extensive quality assurance and regulatory affairs experience to database and randomisation services.
Through its association with the Royal College of Surgeons, SITU has a commitment to developing future researchers through its training programmes. If you are interested in finding out more about the training that SITU offers, please email NDS SITU.
