I am responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of surgical teaching for year 4 medical students for the University of Oxford.

The role involves designing and ensuring delivery of the surgical curriculum as mandated by the GMC, including practical surgical procedures and organisation of content for the 4th year assessments and final BM examinations. I am also an examiner for the final BM.

Strategically the role includes involvement in medical school training committees and I chair the surgical teaching committee which meets online in the evenings. The surgical teaching committee has representatives from the surgical disciplines as the teaching leads and deputies and medical students from years 4, 5 and 6.

Together with my NDS undergraduate training colleagues we develop and deliver basic medical education training for doctors in training and a senior faculty development programme for surgical educators.

Going forward we also intend to develop outreach surgical inspiring career programmes for local schools.
