Deputy Director for Teaching in Surgery

  • Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Internal Examiner for Principles in Clinical Anatomy, University of Oxford
  • Developer/Founder of The Oxford Vascular Collaterals educational platform
  • Teaching Associate, Keble College

I am responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of surgical teaching and curriculum for final year (year 6 and graduate entry year 4) medical students for the University of Oxford.

The role involves designing and ensuring delivery of the surgical curriculum as mandated by the GMC Medical Licensing Assessment, including practical surgical procedures and organisation of content for the 6th year assessments and final BM examinations. I am also an examiner for the 4th year examinations and internal examiner for the Principles of Clinical Anatomy course.

Strategically the role includes involvement in medical school training committees including the surgical teaching committee.  The surgical teaching committee has representatives from the surgical disciplines as the teaching leads and deputies and medical students from years 4, 5 and 6.

Together with my NDS undergraduate training colleagues we develop and deliver medical education training for doctors in training and a senior faculty development programme for surgical educators.
