Mentoring Schemes
RECOGNISE
We are pleased to announce that our new inter-departmental mentoring scheme, RECOGNISE, is accepting new mentors and mentees!
RECOGNISE is run in partnership with the Department of Oncology and aims to give all members of staff and 3rd-year DPhil students the opportunity to develop and reflect on their careers with an experienced member of staff.
Other mentoring schemes
Professional and Support Staff
- The Professional Services Mentoring pilot is currently inviting participants. The scheme has been launched by the Focus on People programme (FoP) to provide an opportunity for mentors and mentees to form mentoring partnerships within and across professional services.
- The Career Support Network can help anyone who is a member of administrative or support staff in the University (including academic-related staff and colleges) and who is looking for confidential, impartial advice about an internal job application or a job interview. The network offers access to a number of managers who are also experienced recruiters and who have volunteered to meet colleagues from across the University and mentor and guide on how to write effective job applications and prepare for/learn from interviews.
Female and Non-Binary Staff
- The Oxford Senior Women's Mentoring Network is a mentoring scheme intended to encourage senior women to explore their leadership potential within academic life, or within an administrative career.
- The OxWEST Mentoring Programme connects Oxford and UK students (who identify as female or non-binary) studying STEM subjects at any level with industry experts, academic leaders, or experienced students.
Black and Minority Ethnic Staff
- Pivot Mentoring offers two mentoring schemes for black and minority ethnic staff. For BME staff at any grade, Pathway A uses mentoring circles where you can network with others across the University, discuss your individual circumstances and actions in a holistic way, and work on your personal and/or professional development. For BME staff at grad 6 and above, Pathway B focuses on career progression by providing access to senior staff in a one-to-one relationship, and by providing space to consider targeted career development.
For All Staff
- The Divisional Peer Mentoring Scheme is based on a format of peer mentoring circle, comprising of 3–4 mentees and one more senior mentor. The mentoring circles should run initially for a 12 month period, and applications open in Trinity Term.
- The Oxford University Coaching Network can cover a wide range of work issues, such as personal development, confidence building, improving work relationships, career progression, specific challenges, issues and projects. Coaching is particularly useful when tackling a thorny issue, facing a difficult decision or experiencing a sense of ‘stuckness’.
