Artera - How the Artera AI prostate test works
The ArteraAI Prostate Test is an AI-powered test that analyses a patient's prostate biopsy slide together with key clinical information to provide personalised insights about their localised prostate cancer. The test helps doctors better understand how a patient's cancer is likely to behave and supports treatment decisions. It is the first AI test recognised in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prostate Cancer (a USA set of guidelines) as a tool for risk stratification and treatment guidance.
Using a digitised image of a prostate biopsy and basic clinical information, the test can:
- Estimate a patient's risk of their cancer spreading (distant metastasis) or dying from prostate cancer over the next 10 years.
- For patients with lower-risk disease, help determine whether active surveillance is an appropriate option and identify those who may benefit from earlier treatment.
- For patients with intermediate-risk disease, predict whether adding short-term hormone therapy (androgen deprivation therapy, or ADT) to radiation therapy is likely to reduce the risk of the cancer spreading.
- For patients with high- or very high-risk prostate cancer, it can help identify those who may benefit from adding abiraterone to long-term hormone therapy (LT-ADT) and radiation therapy.
