Congratulations to Associate Professor Sheraz Markar who has been awarded the 2024 American Surgical Association - European Surgical Association (ASA-ESA) Exchange Program Fellowship.

Professor Markar, who is Director of Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU) and a fellow of the European Surgical Association (ESA), was bestowed the exchange fellow award, allowing him to attend the American Surgical Association (ASA) Annual Meeting from 4th to 6th April in Washington.

Sheraz Markar being congratulated on his ASA-ESA Exchange Program Fellowship award.Only two ESA fellows are selected each year to participate in the exchange program, which creates an opportunity for members of each organisation to network with members of the other and to share information about the respective organisations, including history and key papers. 

At the ASA Annual Meeting, Professor Markar was invited to present his work titled ‘The prognostic impact of Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy on survival after esophagectomy following a delayed interval after chemoradiotherapy; a secondary analysis of the DICE study.’

Commenting on his accolade, Professor Markar said: ‘It is my huge honour to be awarded the American Surgical Association - European Surgical Association Exchange Fellow award. It is truly one of the greatest privileges of my career to date and I am very grateful to the ASA for their warm welcome and to the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences for their ongoing support.’
