IF Oxford is an annual science and ideas festival taking place in locations across the city. It offers a variety of events, workshops and talks to explore the latest scientific research with audiences of all ages, and creates an opportunity for thousands of face-to-face interactions between festival visitors, researchers and innovators.
NDS will be exhibiting in Oxford Town Hall within the Explorazone on Saturday 13 October and Sunday 14 October, from 12 noon to 5pm, and in The Oxford Academy, Littlemore on Sunday 21 October, from 12 noon to 5pm.
Oxford Town Hall
On Saturday 13 October, the team from the Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU) will be discussing how you might go about comparing different surgical techniques and the research into whether training on modules improves surgeons performance in the operating theatre.
On Sunday 14 October, members from the Transplantation Research Immunology Group (TRIG) will be asking visitors 'The heroes and villains in transplantation - Can you sort them out?' In TRIG, the scientists try to find new ways to help transplants live longer by changing the balance of the body's immune system. Their interactive demonstration will show you how an upcoming clinical trial will sort 'good' protective cells from 'bad' cells that cause transplant rejection and how this might help save lives. Visitors will also be able to test their knowledge of human anatomy on an anatomy model.

On Sunday 21 October, the Oxford Transplant Centre (The COPE Consortium and QUOD) will showcase the research they are doing into making more organs useful for transplant, which will help close the critical gap between supply and demand in organ transplant. Visitors will see an organ perfusion machine, learning about the power of new technologies in organ preservation, and will be able to practice taking biopsies using fruit instead of organs whilst the team explain how taking such biopsies throughout the transplant process enables their research.
