All four nominations from the department for full professorships were successfully awarded, following assessment by the Recognition of Distinction Committee. These promotions are a credit to the achievements that Clare, Fadi, Sheraz and Regent have made over the years.

Clare Verrill - Professor of Cellular Pathology and and Artificial Intelligence

Professor Verrill said: 'I am genuinely honoured and humbled to become Professor of Cellular Pathology and Artificial Intelligence with the University of Oxford which for me is obviously a career highlight and represents many years of hard work. I will never forget the excitement of finding out the news! I am very grateful for the support of the department who have provided the environment to enable me to thrive through idea generation, innovation and cutting edge clinical science. I could not have achieved this without my research group, my collaborators and the many staff within NDS, the wider university and NHS who support clinical and research activities. I would like to thank all of them.'

Fadi Issa - Professor of Translational Immunology

Professor Issa said: 'I am delighted and grateful for the support of the department and my team; this is a wonderful recognition of our collective efforts.'

Sheraz Markar – Professor of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery

Professor Markar said: ‘I am so grateful to all the support I have received over my career and all the brilliant collaborations we are building in the national and international upper gastrointestinal community.’

Regent Lee – Professor of Interdisciplinary Innovations

I am so very privileged to be working with fantastic teams to push the frontiers in Interdisciplinary Innovation.’
