Professor Ashok Handa, who is the Director of Surgical Education at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, won a Lifetime Achievement prize for his enormous contribution to the Oxford Medical School through his commitment to teaching and educational leadership in surgical education, including work on the review and development of the curriculum and assessment, as well as for his outstanding contribution to college-based clinical teaching.
The Medical Sciences Division Teaching Excellence Awards scheme has been in place since 2006, recognising and rewarding excellence in teaching, supervision, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment. They formally acknowledge significant educational achievements, reward individuals who have exceeded expectations in carrying out their duties, and support the aspirations of those who wish to innovate and enhance our educational provision.
