UNIQ+ is a six-week summer school designed to give talented individuals who are completing or have completed their first undergraduate degree the chance to experience what postgraduate study is like at the University.
The aim of UNIQ+ is to attract those whose socio-economic background or other life circumstances may have made it more difficult for them to reach their full educational potential or to consider graduate study.
The programme will run for the first time in July and August 2019 for a cohort of about 30 participants. UNIQ+ will give the students the opportunity to carry out a research project at the University under the guidance and mentorship of Oxford academics and current DPhil (PhD) research students and to receive guidance on how to apply for graduate courses and scholarship funding, improve CV and career prospects.
The participants will conduct a research project within a department during the six weeks. NDS will host two students within the Transplantation Research and Immunology Group (TRIG), mentored by Dr Joanna Hester, Dr Fadi Issa and Dr Amy Cross, and the Bone Oncology research group, mentored by Professor Claire Edwards and Dr Emma Morris.
Students will also participate in taught and interactive group sessions in the first two weeks. This will include a surgical skills session taught by NDS DPhil student and Clinical Research Fellow Dr Katherine Hurst.
