Matthew Williams

Preclinical FHS medical student

As an undergraduate reading medicine at St Catherine’s College I have recently joined the Oxford Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Study. My research focuses on the systemic inflammatory effects of aneurysmal disease.

The systemic inflammation associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm presents significant cardiovascular risk. In particular I am interested in mapping the effects of pro-inflammatory mediators on vascular function.

My hope is that through this work I can highlight biomarkers for the prediction of aneurysmal growth and provide evidence that may one day support a reform in abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment protocol.
