Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial 2
ACST-2 is a world-wide stroke prevention study comparing surgery (CEA) versus stenting (CAS) in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis where there is substantial uncertainty as to which treatment is more appropriate.
- It addresses an important scientific question comparing the two procedures in stroke prevention with long term follow up of at least 5 years.
- The trial is managed from the number one ranked University in the world for medicine, the University of Oxford, for the last two years running by the Times Higher education.
- ACST-2 is a large international trial with experienced collaborators from over 30 countries from around the world. It is the largest asymptomatic carotid intervention study in the world!
The recruitment target for the study is 5000 patients for a meaningful comparison between surgery and stenting, so far we have exceeded 1180 patients.
