Spinal cord stimulator (SCS) systems were successfully implanted in three patients as part of a pilot study investigating the use of SCS to treat gait problems associated with Parkinson’s disease. The study is led by Professor Yen Tai at Imperial College London and represents a significant step in exploring new neuromodulation approaches for movement disorders.
This milestone has established AMIIC as a platform for running neuromodulation trials within the University. Building on this achievement, Professor FitzGerald and his research team are planning studies of spinal cord stimulation in several other conditions.
