This exciting research opportunity is being offered as part of Oxford University’s 2023 UNIQ+ Research Internship programme, which is designed to encourage access to graduate study for talented undergraduates from under-represented and disadvantaged groups.
The research project, ‘Investigating the Role of the Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) in Melanoma Skin Cancer’, will be carried out over the summer under the guidance and mentorship of Mr George Adigbli —an Academic Clinical Fellow in Plastic Surgery—within the Translational Research Immunology Group led by Professor Fadi Issa and Professor Joanna Hester.
Under the co-supervision of Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Oliver Cassell and based at the Churchill and John Radcliffe hospitals, the successful candidate will analyse de-identified clinical records in our melanoma database to investigate the relationships between SLNB, melanoma recurrence and response to immunotherapy. They will develop skills in data collection and statistical analysis, and an understanding of emerging concepts in surgical onco-immunology.

The project will suit an undergraduate completing a degree in a discipline related to medicine, biomedical or life sciences, computer sciences or medical statistics.
