Mr Stuart Mercer will discuss ‘A new era in surgery – towards total robotic practice’.

Biography

Stuart MercerStuart Mercer is a consultant upper GI and emergency surgeon in Portsmouth, and he leads their robotic surgery program. After training in Oxford, he spent 20 years as a medical officer in the Royal Navy, travelling the world on submarines and ships, and deploying to various war zones as a surgeon. In Portsmouth he has been involved in Clinical Leadership for over 12 years; on his watch the department has led the UK in urgent cholecystectomy, laparoscopy for emergency surgery, and the development of the robotic approach to cancer, benign work, and emergency surgery. Away from surgery, he cycles, climbs and skis – anything to do with mountains.
