My research focuses on translational and clinical aspects of hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer surgery.
Embedded within the Gordon-Weeks group, my area of interest is the development of novel human models of the liver tumour-immune microenvironment at both tissue and organ level, through the use of slice cultures and ex vivo normothermic machine perfusion of resected liver specimens. This will help us to answer key questions and test tumour biology in clinically relevant disease models. Our goal is to de-risk clinical trials through the development of a high throughput, patient-specific, mechanistically driven approach to personalised cancer therapy.
My clinical research work is primarily through a national network working to deliver clinical trials in HPB surgery in the UK in areas such as hepatic artery infusion of chemotherapy, perioperative optimisation, and early phase trials in pancreatic surgery.
I am also involved in regular teaching for medical undergraduates as a Teaching Associate with Green Templeton College.
