Biographies

Professor Jason HarleyJason M. Harley, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor (tenured) in the Department of Surgery, McGill University, Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, Director of Research of the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning, Director of the Simulation, Affect, Innovation, Learning, and Surgery (SAILS) Lab, and Associate Member of the Institute of Health Sciences Education. They have been inducted into The Society for Simulation in Healthcare’s ASCEND Leadership Network, and received The Canadian Association of Medical Education Certificate of Merit Award, and The Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award from the Technology, Instruction, Cognition, and Learning SIG of the American Educational Research Association. Prof. Harley completed their FRQSC and SSHRC CGS-funded Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at McGill University in 2014 and held an FRQSC-funded postdoctoral position in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Montréal from 2014-2015.

 

BDS FDS RCS MB BCh FRCS (CSiG) FRCS (OMFS) Daljit Kaur Dhariwal - Deputy Director for Teaching in SurgeryDaljit Dhariwal is Deputy Director for Teaching in Surgery at NDS and is responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of surgical teaching for year 4 medical students for the University of Oxford.

The role involves designing and ensuring delivery of the surgical curriculum as mandated by the GMC, including practical surgical procedures and organisation of content for the 4th year assessments and final BM examinations. She is also an examiner for the final BM.

Strategically the role includes involvement in medical school training committees, and she chairs the surgical teaching committee which meets online in the evenings. The surgical teaching committee has representatives from the surgical disciplines as the teaching leads and deputies and medical students from years 4, 5 and 6.

Together with her NDS undergraduate training colleagues, she develops and delivers basic medical education training for doctors in training and a senior faculty development programme for surgical educators.

Going forward, she also intends to develop outreach surgical inspiring career programmes for local schools.

 

BSC (Hons), MBBS, MD (Res), FRCS (Vasc) Mei Nortley - Deputy Director for Teaching in SurgeryMei Nortley is Deputy Director for Teaching in Surgery at NDS and is responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of surgical teaching and curriculum for final year (year 6 and graduate entry year 4) medical students for the University of Oxford.

The role involves designing and ensuring delivery of the surgical curriculum as mandated by the GMC Medical Licensing Assessment, including practical surgical procedures and organisation of content for the 6th year assessments and final BM examinations. She is also an examiner for the 4th year examinations and internal examiner for the Principles of Clinical Anatomy course.

Strategically the role includes involvement in medical school training committees including the surgical teaching committee.  The surgical teaching committee has representatives from the surgical disciplines as the teaching leads and deputies and medical students from years 4, 5 and 6.

Together with her NDS undergraduate training colleagues, she develops and delivers medical education training for doctors in training and a senior faculty development programme for surgical educators.

  

The Chief Medical Officer has confirmed that attendance at the Surgical Grand Rounds can count toward internal CPD, with 1 point awarded per hour. Please note that in-person attendance is required, and you will need to sign the attendance register.
