Work experience and electives
WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS
We accept a limited number of work experience applications from students considering a career in medicine and studying relevant subjects, via the Voluntary Services Office.
Due to Health and Safety regulations we are unable to accept applications from students who will be under 16 years old at the time of the placement.
Students under the age of 18 are not permitted into any of the OUH Trust's operating theatres.
All requests for administrative / laboratory based work experience should be directed to the HR Team.
NDS WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS AGED 16 OR OVER
The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) at the University of Oxford provides a limited number of work experience placements for students aged 16 years old or over. We offer 12 placements over two weeks (six students per week) in July of every year.
The five-day programme is designed to offer students valuable experience in science and medicine, and will include time in the lab, the opportunity to shadow clinicians and research nurses, and a careers talk and feedback session.

Elective students
The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences accept a limited number of elective students each year.
Further information can be found under the Medical Sciences pages on the University of Oxford website. All requests for elective placements must be directed to the Medical Sciences Division for assessment.
