Join a conversation on Zoom with three researchers from different University of Oxford medical departments. Ask about what it’s like to undertake research today and how others started their medical journey.

This session and others in the series, aim to highlight the wide range of different careers available in medical research and some of the surprising ways that people have got there.

The event is free and is part of IF Oxford Science + Ideas Festival.

SPEAKERS

Eve Warner - 'Entering the workplace and discovering what clicks'

Having started working an office job after completing a BSc in Biology, I came to a realisation that it was not for me despite good prospects. While impacted by lockdown measures, I lost my office job. I was lucky enough to secure a laboratory technician role following this, and with this first foot in the door in the broad scientific sector, I was able to try several roles at various organisations. These include a biomedical device manufacturer, diagnostic lab, and vaccine development and manufacturing company. All these experiences taught me about what I value in work and in the workplace. Now, after two years at NDS within the Oxford Radcliffe Biobank, I have been promoted to Biobank Co-ordinator, and manage the operations and a team while contributing to medical research. My talk will cover my career journey and the lessons learned along the way.
