biographies 

Alex Lee

Mr Alex Lee MBChB PhD FRCS(Eng) FRCSEd(Paed.Surg.) FRCPCH

Following qualification from Edinburgh, Mr Alex Lee underwent general surgical and neonatal training in Edinburgh/Glasgow and specialist paediatric surgical training in Leeds/Nottingham. His PhD research at Imperial College was in surgical ergonomics to improve the practice and safety of paediatric minimal access surgery. He was the RCS National Surgical Fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London before moving to Oxford as a consultant in 2011. He was previously an Executive Member and Honorary Treasurer of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2018.

  

Junaid AshrafMr Junaid Ashraf FEBPS, FEAPU, FRCS (Paeds)

Mr Junaid Ashraf's medical journey began with his surgical training in Pakistan, which he further advanced by gaining experience at renowned institutions such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, King’s College Hospital, and the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. He completed his Fellowship in Paediatric Urology at Leeds, UK.

Mr Ashraf's qualifications include FRCS in Paediatric Surgery, a Fellowship from the European Academy of Paediatric Urology (FEAPU), and a Fellowship from the European Board of Paediatric Surgery. He also sits on several committees and serves as an examiner for the FRCS and European Board examinations.

 

Eva CoatesDr Eva Coates, BA, MA (Oxon), MBBChir (Cantab), PhD, FRCS (Paed)

Dr Coates is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon with a sub-speciality interest in Paediatric Colorectal Surgery. Dr Coates completed medical training at University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. She holds a PhD from University College London, where she focused on machine learning approaches to risk stratification for children requiring fundoplication. She also completed the Royal College of Surgeons Senior Fellowship in Paediatric Colorectal Surgery. Dr Coates has multiple publications and presentations covering upper and lower gastrointestinal problems affecting children. She has an ongoing interest in clinical data informatics and is currently participating in the Said Business School AI for Business 2025  diploma cohort.

 

  

The Chief Medical Officer has confirmed that attendance at the Surgical Grand Rounds can count toward internal CPD, with 1 point awarded per hour. Please note that in-person attendance is required, and you will need to sign the attendance register.
