Biography

Anita Makins

Anita Makins is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a specialist interest is in Global Women's Health. She has worked extensively in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia with NGOs (including Medecins Sans Frontieres, SolidarMed, Chemonics, BMGF), Ministries of Health in several low and middle income countries and international organisations including the International Federation of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (FIGO) and the WHO.  She is the Director of new MSc in Global Women's Health and is leading its development which pending approvals will be launched in September 2025. 

 

 

Alexandra Cairns

 

Alexandra is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetomaternal Medicine in Oxford University Hospitals and the Maternal Medicine Network Lead for the surrounding region.

She trained at the University of Oxford, qualifying in 2009. She completed her DPhil at the University of Oxford for her research into blood pressure management in the postnatal period. Alexandra completed her Subspecialty Training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine in 2022.

 

 

The Chief Medical Officer has confirmed that attendance at the Surgical Grand Rounds can count toward internal CPD, with 1 point awarded per hour. Please note that in-person attendance is required, and you will need to sign the attendance register.
