Clinical innovations: Pioneered robotic urology in the UK and is Chairman of the KCL-Vattikuti Institute of Robotic Surgery. Chief investigator of the key randomised trials, CORAL and STAR-TRAK. As MRC Lecturer (Queen Square), he developed the “Dasgupta technique” of injecting Botox into the bladder, developed the first image guided and 3D printed prostatectomies. He is the Ambassador for the KCL-Ericsson 5G Global health program in telemedicine and was awarded the Golden Telescope by BAUS in 2006.

Research: Has made enormous contribution in the study of mucosal cell biology with focus on receptor function in the bladder, targeted immunotherapy in prostate cancer, novel imaging and indentation probes. Leads a research team of 38 members including basic scientists, engineers and clinician-scientists within King’s College London. He is the Chair of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre. His grant income exceeds £20M from numerous bodies including the MRC, EPSRC, EU and The Urology Foundation. He is also the lead for experimental surgery within the Biomedical Research Centre at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ with combined grant income of >£70M.

Communicator: Under his Editorship, the impact factor of BJUI has doubled to 4.439, achieved Altmetric score of 1266 and supported BJUI Knowledge as a novel educational tool. He has >800 publications with >380 papers, 30 book chapters, edited 6 books, >400 presentations, >200 invited lectures and >30 Visiting Professorships.

Education: Established the Olympus and TUF Simulation lab at Guy’s with £3M of investment, inaugurated by HM The Queen. Started the only BSc programs in Surgical Sciences at KCL and leads the EAU MARS and the BAUS SIMULATE patients’ safety projects.

Management: Served on BAUS council, BAUS trustee, RSPA, SAC and JCST. Founding member of ERUS, NICE Guidelines Panelist and the youngest Hunterian President. He served on the Associated Parliamentary Committee for Surgical Services, House of Lords for 3 years.

Charities: Trustee to the Prostate Cancer Research Network, The Malcolm Coptcoat Foundation and raised funds through marathon running.
