IF Oxford returns as a digital science and ideas festival with 100 online events from 1 to 31 October 2020 and the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) is delighted to be taking part.

The lobby at Explorazone Digital, IF Oxford

NDS Staff will be engaging the public with their research at Explorazone Digital, the IF Oxford's flagship family event on Saturday 17 October from 8am to 9pm.

Sharing a virtual booth with the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), visitors of all ages will be able to join live chats with researchers, watch video demonstrations and take part in activities and also enjoy a series of puzzles all related to the human body, from the comfort of their home.

The NDS activities include:

Beat the Pathologists

Ever wondered how diseases get diagnosed? Have a go and see if you can identify normal and diseased tissue cells. You'll be doing exactly what a pathologist would do in the lab - can you beat them?

Beat the Pathologists competition is open to all school students across three categories: primary, secondary and sixth form. There are prizes (up to £50 in Amazon vouchers) for the top three scores in each category.

The competition will be launched on Saturday 17 October and will close on 16 November 2020. Visitors will be able to watch the video of the opening ceremony with Professor Clare Verrill on the virtual booth.

Beat the Pathologists is sponsored by PathLAKE, University of Warwick, University of Oxford, NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, and the University of Nottingham.
