The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences is proud to announce that Associate Professor James Hunter has been appointed as Kidney Clinical Lead – Assessment and Recovery Centres (ARCs) for NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).

Associate Professor James Hunter

In his new two-year role, Professor Hunter will lead the establishment and development of ARCs, a national initiative designed to enhance kidney transplantation services across the UK. His work will focus on implementing clinical protocols, improving patient care, and driving innovations to ensure more patients benefit from successful kidney transplants.

Professor Hunter is an academic transplant and vascular access surgeon within the Transplant Research Group. His appointment reflects both his clinical expertise and his commitment to advancing organ donation and transplantation outcomes.

Speaking about the role, Professor Hunter said: 'I am greatly looking forward to this new role. It is a privilege to be leading this initiative. Our main focus will be on assessing and transplanting kidneys that have previously been declined for transplant. This is a really important project and will help improve access to transplant for patients and shape the future clinical service.'
