The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) is proud to announce that Professor Kokila Lakhoo has been named the 2026 recipient of the Denis Browne Gold Medal by the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS), in recognition of her outstanding contributions to paediatric surgery.

Established in 1968 in memory of Sir Denis Browne, the Denis Browne Gold Medal is awarded by BAPS to honour individuals who have made exceptional contributions to paediatric surgery worldwide.

Professor Lakhoo, Professor of Global Paediatric Surgery and Head of the Oxford University Global Surgery Group at NDS, has made transformative contributions to clinical leadership, research and education at local, national and international levels. Throughout her distinguished career, she has been dedicated to improving surgical care and outcomes for children across the world.

Commenting on her accolade, Professor Lakhoo said: 'This award is dedicated to all the children worldwide who have surgical needs'.

The award will be presented at the BAPS 2026 Annual Congress, taking place in Manchester from 17–19 June 2026.
