Graduate students from across the department had the opportunity to showcase their work and also network with their peers and senior researchers.
The meeting consisted of a programme of 23 short talks and snap poster presentations from first year, final year and MSc students. Students also displayed their work in posters in the atrium. The oral and poster presentations covered a wide range of topics and sparked interesting questions and lively discussions. The presentations were very impressive, highlighting the strength of postgraduate research in the department.
All staff in the department were invited to attend and the sessions were chaired by Professor Ashok Handa, Professor Freddie Hamdy, Dr Letizia Lo Faro, Dr Gurdeep S. Mannu, Dr Sandy Figiel and Dr Anna Furmanski.
The plenary talk this year was given by Professor Simon Leedham from the Nuffield Department of Medicine who presented 'Using spatial biology to quantitively map and understand cell interactions in colorectal cancer’. In addition, Louise King (Communications and Public Engagement Officer) spoke on ‘Public Engagement in NDS'.
The day concluded with a prize giving ceremony. Each winner was congratulated and presented with a certificate from Professor Claire Edwards, Director of Graduate Studies. Speaking after the event, Professor Edwards said: ‘It’s great to see how enthusiastic our students are about their research. Their presentations were excellent.’
