Deputy Laboratory Manager (Islet Isolation Laboratory)

I hold a PhD in Medical Studies from the University of Plymouth, where my research focused on haematology and immunology. Specifically, my research project utilised biochemical assays, next-generation sequencing, proteomics and fluorescent microscopy to characterise and explore the underlying mechanisms of Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase inhibitor (BTKi) resistance in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Through this research, I also identified a promising therapeutic agent for treating BTKi-resistant MCL cells.

As Deputy Laboratory Manager at the DRWF Human Islet Isolation Facility in Oxford, I oversee the day-to-day operations of this HTA-licensed, clean-room laboratory dedicated to the aseptic production of pancreatic islets from deceased donor pancreases. My responsibilities include conducting islet isolations, quality control testing, consumables management, and training and assessing staff. These islets are used in transplantation for patients with unstable Type 1 diabetes.

In addition to operational management, I ensure the facility operates and remains compliant with the relevant policies, and support ongoing research aimed at improving islet isolation methods. This work contributes to advancing our understanding of diabetes and improving patient outcomes
