Nithesh Ranasinha, BA (Hons) Medical Sciences, BMBCh, PGCE Medical Education, MRCS Ed, studied medicine at Jesus College, University of Oxford (2014-2020), with clinical elective experience at the Brady Urological Institute, Johns Hopkins, USA and University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was awarded the Jesus College pre-clinical (2017) and clinical (2020) studies prizes and the Association of Physicians’ Undergraduate prize for research (2017).

Following this, he completed an Academic Foundation Programme in Oxford (2020-2022) under supervision of Professor Alastair Lamb and developed an early interest in urological cancer.

He took a year out of training to teach medical students as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Bath and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at Bristol University (2022-2023).

Nithesh was appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Urology in Oxford, in August 2023. His research interests include the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers.

He is currently investigating the molecular biology of prostate cancer recurrence after focal therapy under supervision of Professor Richard Bryant and Professor Ian Mills, alongside undertaking surgical training in Urology in Thames Valley deanery. At this early stage of specialty training, he is keen to gather a variety of experience and expertise in urology clinical and research practice.

Nithesh is also a clinical tutor at Balliol College, University of Oxford, providing fortnightly clinical teaching for undergraduate medical students.

Outside of work, he can usually be found watching cricket or playing basketball.
