The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences is delighted to announce that Puneet Plaha has been awarded the title of Professor of Neuro Oncology Surgery by the University of Oxford, as part of this year’s annual recognition of Distinction exercise.

Professor Plaha has been recognised for his work on setting up novel clinical trials for brain tumours (Glioma), advanced brain imaging for brain tumours, novel intra operative technology to minimise morbidity during brain tumour surgery and immunotherapy for glioblastoma or brain cancer.

He is the Chief Investigator of two major national multicentre NIHR trials (FUTURE-GB and RECURRENT-GB), focused on developing better treatments for glioblastoma and recently opened CRUK funded COMBAT-GB trial looking at Immunotherapy for glioblastoma.

Upon receiving the title, Professor Plaha shared:

'I am profoundly grateful to receive this professorship. It is a testament to the hard work of our entire clinical and research team at Oxford. I am excited to continue our work translating novel surgical and neuro-oncological innovations into standard clinical practice to directly benefit patients with a brain tumour.'
