The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) is delighted to announce that Mr Alex Gordon-Weeks and Professor Sheraz Markar have been appointed to national leadership roles by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Gordon-Weeks has been named Surgical Specialty Lead for Colorectal Liver Metastases, and Professor Sheraz has been appointed Surgical Specialty Lead for Oesophageal Cancer.

These high-profile appointments are supported by the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS), Bowel Cancer UK and Heartburn Cancer UK.

During their five-year terms, Mr Gordon-Weeks will play a key role in shaping the future of clinical research in colorectal liver metastases, while Professor Markar will drive forward research in oesophago-gastric surgery.

Both will guide efforts to enhance clinical networks and lead the development of national clinical trials, with the goal of advancing surgical science and improving patient outcomes in these vital areas of cancer treatment.
