The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) is delighted to announce that Mr Martin Gillies has been recognised in the 2025 Teaching Excellence Awards, receiving an Excellent Teacher Award for his exceptional contributions to education within the Medical Sciences Division.

The Excellent Teacher Awards category honours individuals who have demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching and in supporting students’ learning and research skills across the Collegiate University and the NHS.

Mr Gillies is a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer in the NDS, where he is widely respected for his dedication to teaching and mentorship.

The 2025 Teaching Excellence Awards recognised excellence across seven categories — Major Educator, Career Achievement, Excellent Teacher, Early Career Excellent Teacher, Excellent Supervisor, Learning Support, and Projects — with a total of 39 recipients this year.
